Understand common filter materials and their characteristics
PP cotton (polypropylene):
Characteristics: It has good pollutant holding capacity, corrosion resistance, high pressure resistance, long service life, and low cost.
Usage: Mainly used to intercept large particles such as sediment, rust, and insect eggs in water, it is a commonly used material for household pre filtration and water purifier fine filtration.
Attention: High quality filter cartridges may clog when they reach the upper limit of pollutant holding capacity and need to be replaced regularly.
Activated carbon:
Characteristics: It has excellent adsorption performance and can remove discoloration, odor, and some organic matter from water.
Types: including coconut shell granular activated carbon, coal based granular activated carbon, fruit shell granular activated carbon, etc. Among them, coconut shell granular activated carbon has good adsorption performance and is a food grade material.
Usage: Mainly used for purifying drinking water, purified water, tap water, etc.
Attention: The service life is affected by the amount of purified water and needs to be replaced regularly.
RO membrane (reverse osmosis membrane):
Characteristics: The best filtration effect can effectively remove impurities such as dissolved salts, colloids, microorganisms, and organic matter from water, producing pure water.
Usage: Suitable for occasions with extremely high water quality requirements, such as direct drinking water systems.
Attention: The price is relatively high and it needs to be used in conjunction with equipment such as booster pumps.
Ultrafiltration membrane (hollow fiber membrane):
Characteristics: PVDF ultrafiltration membranes have good fracture strength, hydrophilicity, chemical corrosion resistance, and aging resistance.
Filtering accuracy: generally 0.01 microns, capable of intercepting tiny particulate impurities in water.
Usage: Can be used for direct drinking water treatment and whole house water purification.
Stainless steel, ceramics and other materials:
Features: High temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, high pressure resistance, etc., suitable for filtration in harsh environments.
Usage: Mainly used for water treatment in industrial and special environments.
Select filter element according to actual needs
Consider water quality:
If the water quality of the source is poor and contains many impurities, it is recommended to choose a filter element with high filtration accuracy and strong pollutant holding capacity, such as PP cotton, activated carbon, and RO membrane combination. If the water quality is relatively good and only needs to remove odors or improve taste, activated carbon filter can be chosen.
Consider usage scenarios:
Household water can choose an economical and moderately effective filter cartridge combination, such as PP cotton+activated carbon+ultrafiltration membrane or RO membrane. Water treatment in industrial or special environments requires the selection of appropriate filter material and combination according to specific needs.
Consider cost:
The prices of filter cartridges made of different materials vary greatly, so it is necessary to choose the appropriate filter cartridge according to the budget. At the same time, the replacement cycle of the filter element and subsequent maintenance costs need to be considered.
When choosing a filter element, factors such as water quality, usage scenarios, and cost should be comprehensively considered, and decisions should be made based on product manuals, user evaluations, and professional advice. In addition, regular replacement of filter cartridges is one of the key measures to ensure water quality safety.
